These games have been the most pleasant surprise in modern gaming for me. Nothing has quite scratched my gaming itch since Mass Effect. I just assumed they didn't make games for me anymore. Enter Horizon Zero Dawn. I played it because of the cool robots (And due to a very eccentric teacher I had a few years ago). It started out how I expected. Savages, revenge, etc etc. I did not expect it to turn into a complex, daring, hard sci-fi plot. And did I mention it's flippin' gorgeous?
And then Forbidden West upped the ante. Better written characters, more complexity, and somehow even prettier (Including a way better photo mode). One of the things I really love is that I'm pretty sure they have the whole plot planned out, and have had it planned out since the beginning. I'm quite excited to see where the third game goes.
